We’ve heard rumors of the “Nozomi” for quite awhile now, but only now did Sony make it official. At their CES press event, Sony gave us official on what is now called the Sony Xperia S. The company has dropped the Sony Ericsson branding, and gone with the new Sony Xperia brand.

The Xperia S features a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor,  a 720p zero-air-gap 4.3 inch display, and a 12-megapixel Exmor R camera. The device will ship with Android 2.3, but Sony says Ice Cream Sandwich will come to the device soon.

The device is also Playstation Certified, so it is fully compatible with the PlayStation Suite, which is great news for heavy gamers.

The Xperia S be available in Q1 of 2012, and will come in 16 and 32GB variants.
