Who said earnings calls were only about money? During Google’s earning call a few hours ago, CEO Larry Page said that Google is fully aware of and focused on the low-end Android tablet market.

“There has been a lot of success on some lower priced tablets that run Android. Maybe not the full Google version of Android, but we definitely have a belief that there is going to be a lot of success at the lower end of the market as well, with lower priced products that will be very significant. And it’s definitely an area we think is important and are quite focused on.”

Did he just confirm the Nexus tablet? It sounds like it. Current rumors point to a July release of the device.

Amazon really brought the affordable tablet to the forefront with the Kindle Fire, which runs Android, but basically removes everything Google related from their OS. Google probably doesn’t like that and is looking to completely stomp on the Fire with the Nexus tablet.

Why did it took them so long to understand that the cheaper tablet market is bigger than the ipad market?
