We just told you about HTC’s lackluster earnings, and as we expected, the company can thank Samsung for the poor Q2. Samsung is set to officially announce its earning for Q2 2012 on July 27th, but as they always do, the company has released some expected numbers this morning.

Samsung estimates an operating profit of between $5.7 billon (6.5 trillion won) and $5.9 billion (6.9 trillion wan). The company hopes to bring in a total profit between of around $40 billion (46 trillion won).

If these estimates are close, this would break Samsung’s previous quarter record of an operating profit of $5.1 billion (5.85 trillion won).

Samsung’s record quarter is most likely due to incredibly strong sales of its flagship Galaxy S III overseas, as well as the continued success of the Galaxy S II. These numbers will only improve next quarter, as the Galaxy S III continues to roll out. Like HTC, Samsung has been embroiled in legal battles with Apple around the world, but that doesn’t seem to have affected them.
