News: Customer Allegedly Purchases Google Play Gift Card From Target

A few days back, a user did some investigating throughout the Google Play APK and discovered a system for activating and redeeming gift cards. The cards were supposedly scheduled to launch later this month or early next month. Today, however, an Android Police reader was allegedly able to purchase a $25 Google Play gift at their local Target store. The customer says he saw the cards sitting in a bin near the cash registers, picked one up, and checked out. Simple as that. They did run into some trouble trying to add the card to their account and had to do a little hacking to the Play Store app, but eventually got the $25 added.

Since stores already have inventory of the cards, it’s safe to assume that we are getting very close to the official launch of Google Play gift cards.
